You Can Never Reach the End of a Rainbow
Rainbows are optical illusions. They don't exist in a fixed place.
Rainbows are formed by light reflecting and bending in water droplets, and they move with you! So that pot of gold? It's always out of reach.
Rainbows Are Actually Full Circles
From the ground, we see only a rainbow's arc. But from an airplane (or high mountain), you can sometimes spot a full circular rainbow! That's because the light is reflecting all the way around, not just halfway.
There is More Than One Type of Rainbow
Did you know there are moonbows, fogbows, and even double rainbows? Each one forms in slightly different conditions. Double rainbows have a second arc with reversed colors, so red is on the inside of the second bow!
The Order of Rainbow Colors Never Changes
The classic ROYGBIV (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet) always appears in the same order because of how each wavelength of light bends differently through water droplets.
